Photo by Justin Sullivan/Getty ImagesA video on TikTok has gone viral and folks are debating on if it's mean or not. A guy posted a video showing how he keeps people from walking on his lawn. Personally, I love it!
Thomas Lyons (@tgunz81) shared video from a security camera with the teasing text “when people won’t stop cutting across your lawn". People continue to walk across his lawn instead of going around his house. His house is on a corner lot and instead of going around on the sidewalk, people continue to walk across his yard, cutting off 30 seconds of walk time.
In the video, you hear happy music while people are walking across his yard. Then, the sprinkler comes on. Lyons told the Daily Dot that the sprinkler is automated and is triggered by motion. So every time someone gets to a certain point, they get blasted with water.
Obviously, people have conflicting views about this. Many people thought Lyons was overreacting and that it's not a big deal to walk across someone's yard. Others think it's an awesome idea as walking across someone's yard is rude. Especially since there's a sidewalk around his house for people to walk on.
A subsequent video showed just how many people were cutting through the yard on a regular basis, sometimes even on bikes, despite being asked not to. Despite all the people throwing a fit in the comments, most people are in line with this top comment from @tatty_daddy_: “I LOVE this level of pettiness. It’s your lawn, so do as you wish.”
I totally agree with @tatty_daddy_. It may be a petty response to people walking across grass, but it's totally rude to walk right through the middle of someone's yard. I think it's lack of home training! And to ride a bike across someone's yard...so not cool!
Lyons himself commented that the sprinkler system was just installed recently, so he hopes to post more videos of people learning the hard way that the sidewalk is there for a reason. Whatever you think about this idea, it's snagged a lot of attention. Millions people have checked out the video below.
