"What Would You Say" is the song that started it all for Dave Matthews Band. Well, after years of touring and building up their fan base. The song was released in September 1994 as the lead single from their debut album Under the Table and Dreaming. In June 1995, it peaked at #9 on the Billboard Mainstream Top 40 chart.

Dave Matthews Band got the help of some other very talented musicians on this track. According to Songfacts, that's John Popper of Blues Traveler playing the harmonica and Michael McDonald is one of the backing vocalists. However, neither of them appear in the music video.

The video for "What Would You Say" alternates between shots of the band performing and a lot of random imagery. And I do mean random. But the '90s were sort of random, so it worked.
