We’ve all been to the drive-thru at McDonald’s. It’s as American as going to the voting booth. Actually, if people went to the polls as much as they go to the drive-thru, we might have been able to avoid some of the problems…ah, never mind. That’s a blog post for another day.

There’s one McDonald’s location in the world that has a slightly different version of the drive-thru. It’s a “float-thru,” and it’s exactly what it sounds like: a drive-thru on water. It’s not in Venice. This unique Mickey D’s is in Germany. More specifically, it’s in the place that the hamburger is named after. You can get your Big Mac in Hamburg without having to get out of your kayak or canoe.

According to the New York Post, McDonald’s only aquatic location, a.k.a. the McBoat, sits on a small canal off of the Elbe river. It has been operational since 2015 but has recently gained much more attention thanks to a now-viral video posted by YouTuber Tom Scott. The McBoat location is open 24/7 during the spring and summer, but closed during the colder months. See how it works below:
