Perms Are Making A Comeback With “Boy Perms”
If you grew up in the 1980’s then you know what a perm is. I started getting them when I was 13 years old and continued into the later 80’s. I mean, you had to have a perm for that true 80’s big hair! Lol! I actually had fine, straight hair so my hair needed em back then. I can still remember the smell of them…ugh!
According to Cafe Mom, perms are making a comeback with a surprising group. Perms are big with teen boys right now, and parents have no idea why!
The trend has been growing for a few years now. On TikTok the hashtag #boyperm shows lots of tweens, teens and young adult males happily getting their hair curled. Some are getting perms at home, but others are getting perms in salons, which isn’t cheap. Think Justin Timberlake in the early 2000’s. Some are really going for those tight curls.
The Today Show recently discussed the 80’s trend making a comeback and the picture below gives you an idea of what’s become popular. I’m thinking Mick Hucknall from the 80’s band ‘Simply Red’….am I right?! Or Sophia from the “Golden Girls”. Oh…by the way….the blog pic is of me and two friends in the 80’s. I’m in the middle!
It’ll be interesting to see how long this trend lasts. I guess the old saying is true: “Everything old is new again”.
