HBO Max is ringing in the holidays with the new holiday flick 8-Bit Christmas. The movie follows a pre-teen boy on his desperate mission to get a Nintendo Entertainment System for Christmas. It immediately reminded me of A Christmas Story, only set in the 1980s.

According to Looper, 8-Bit Christmas is based on the Kevin Jakubowski book of the same name. The movie stars Winslow Fegley as young Jake Doyle, a typical American kid growing up in the late-'80s. The story of his hunt for the red hot Nintendo is told by his older self, played by Neil Patrick Harris.

Along with Fegley and Harris, 8-Bit Christmas also stars June Diane Raphael and Steve Zahn as Jake’s mom and dad. Much of the comedy comes from the conflict between parents and kids over playing video games. Those of us who came of age in the '80s remember that well.

8-Bit Christmas hits HBO Max on November 24th. Check out the trailer:
