Say a big welcome to Ronan the newest grizzly bear at the North Carolina Zoo. He is a 9-year-old male who weighs over 740 pounds. Ronan, who has a twin sister named Finley, was born in Yellowstone National Park. At 1-year old both Ronan and Finley were removed from the park after their mother was put down for being a threat to visitors. The bears were then relocated to the Reid Park Zoo which is in Tuscon, Arizona where they shared a habitat.

Like other species of bears, once they get a little older bears require their own space. This is why Ronan was brought to the North Carolina Zoo. The grizzly habitat was vacant after the passing of its former resident last summer.
