January is usually the busiest month for fitness centers and gyms as Americans try to live up to their New Year’s resolution to slim down. Well, the Omicron variant has changed things this year.

According to NBC News, fitness center owners all over the country are saying they haven’t seen their annual spikes in memberships. In fact, a study conducted by ClubIntel found that 57% of the people who worked out regularly before the pandemic still haven’t resumed their exercise schedules. That’s not good for business. The data shows that during the week of December 27th, 2021, gyms and fitness centers saw a 12% drop from the same week in 2020.

The Omicron variant could not have come at a worse time for the fitness industry. However, it’s also understandable that you might not want to be in a room full of people sweating and breathing hard, even with masks on. But could there be something else getting in the way of your workout? Perhaps something that walks around on four legs?
