I use Instacart often to shop for groceries. I started last year when I was home recovering from neck surgery/staph infection. This year I continued to use the service when I was going through cancer treatments. With COVID still around I’m a little paranoid about being around people. Instacart is an awesome service! I always try to be very flexible when my Instacart shopper is doing my shopping for me. A woman’s note of instructions for an Instacart shopper has gone viral because it’s so ridiculous and long!
TikTok user Violetta, who goes by the name @_instaqueen_, recently shared a screenshot of an Instacart customer’s list of demands to the app and folks are outraged! The video has gone viral because of the length of instructions the customer left.
According to Yahoo, in the Instacart customer’s instructions for the shopper, they requested that the shopper use insulated cooling bags throughout the order, avoid batch orders, and provide them with live updates. They also wanted the shopper to strictly follow their listed instructions for bagging chicken or meat. The shopper decided NOT to shop this customer’s order and she mentioned that Instacart shopper’s take customer notes very seriously.
The note went on and on and I have to say that I agree with the Instacart shopper. I totally understand if you have serious food allergies and I get wanting to approve replacements. That said, if you have to write a novel of instructions, maybe you should shop yourself or get a friend who knows you to shop for you.
This situation definitely could have been handled differently by the customer. If you’re writing paragraph upon paragraph of instructions, at least word things in a nice way. And make sure you KNOW you’re high maintenance and let the shopper know you’ll tip them well. I understand that it’s the shopper’s job to handle “difficult” customers, but this woman went full blown “Karen” with this list.
In the video you can’t read the entire list of instructions, which tells you how long it is! I think the shopper made the right call not shopping for this customer. Just reading the note you know that no matter how the shopper handles this situation, this customer will find something to complain about.
Here’s the video from TikTok. Heads up, there’s some NSFW language.
