The DeLorean Is Coming Back To The Future
There have never been that many of them on the road and, by all accounts, the company was a failure. It only lasted a couple of years. Yet, despite its brief history, the DeLorean remains one of the most iconic cars of the ’80s and perhaps even of all time. Of course, it did have some help from Hollywood.
According to Fox News, the DeLorean brand was revived several years ago by English mechanic Stephen Wynne. He bought the name and remaining stock of original factory parts so that he could offer restoration and service for the 1981-1982 stainless steel cars still out there. As time went on, Wynne began manufacturing reproduction parts. Now he’s taking it a step further.
In 2016, Wynne announced he would start building new versions of the DeLorean coupes. On Sunday (2/13), the company released a teaser (below) for the updated model that will be built at a new facility in San Antonio, Texas. The company used the hashtags #ElectricVehicle and #Luxury in social media posts and plans to release more details this summer. We can already see that the new DeLorean still has the gull wing doors of the original.
If this new DeLorean creates any sort of buzz, I bet we’ll see a Back to the Future reboot. Perhaps Doc Brown’s sons, Jules and Verne, will use the new model as they continue on in the family business of time travel. Marty and Jennifer McFly had a couple of kids, too. Oh yeah, someone is probably working on a script.
