‘Grizzly Bear Conflict Manager’ Needed In Montana
Need a job? Love the outdoors? Are you skilled at conflict resolution? How do you feel about grizzly bears? If you’re still reading, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service may have the perfect opportunity for you!
According to Slate, the Department of the Interior has a job posting for a Grizzly Bear Conflict Manager. The position entails breaking up “scuttles between bears and property or humans.” Usually, that kind of “conflict resolution” occurs by means of trapping and releasing.
There’s a real need for this type of work. Human-bear conflict, including bear attacks, is on the rise. Tim Manley, who managed grizzly bears in Northwest Montana for nearly 30 years, told the Flathead Beacon that 2021 was one of his busiest years.
The successful candidate will have to live within 100 miles of Missoula, Bozeman, or Kalispell in Montana, but will be responsible for coordinating grizzly bear conflict management in Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, and Washington. It’s a big job with even bigger clients. However, the salary range is between $79K and $103K a year.
Oh yeah, the job posting also mentions moose and “large numbers of biting insects.” Still interested?
