I watched a lot of “The Muppet Show” when I was a kid. My two favorite parts of each episode were Statler and Waldorf, the cranky hecklers in the balcony, and Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem, the Muppet Show’s house band. The band always looked like they were having a great time. I realized later that a few of them may have been stoned out of their Muppet minds, if that’s even possible. Perhaps we’ll learn more about that in their new series.
The Verge reports that Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem are getting their own show on Disney+. The new series called “The Muppets Mayhem” will follow the iconic Muppet musicians Dr. Teeth, Janice, Zoot, Lips, Floyd Pepper and, of course, their drummer, Animal, as they record their first album.
Canadian actress Lilly Singh will play the lead human role as their manager. Co-producer Jonnie Davis at ABC Signature promises “The Muppets Mayhem” will be “fresh, fun, musical and of course, hilarious.” The series is being headed up by “The Goldbergs” creator Adam F. Goldberg.
I don’t have young kids at home anymore but I’m sure my own nostalgia will lead me to “The Muppets Mayhem.” Disney+ tweeted a photo but hasn’t announced a premiere date for the new series yet. In the meantime, here’s the band covering a Paul Simon classic.
