Phil & Mel In The Afternoon

Weekdays 3:00PM-7:00PM

There’s a fast-food war that seems to break out every few months. This time, however, it has nothing to do with chicken. Now that it’s Lent, fast-food chains are pitting themselves against each other in the battle for fish sandwich supremacy. According to USA Today, Arby’s recruited hip-hop artist Pusha T, a.k.a. King Push, for a new diss track/commercial that goes right after McDonald’s and their Filet-O-Fish.

There’s more to this story than the promotion of the Arby’s fish sandwich. It’s personal for Pusha T. The rapper says he helped create the popular “I’m lovin’ it” jingle for McDonald’s in 2003. “I did it at a very young age at a very young time in my career where I wasn’t asking for as much money and ownership,” Pusha T told Rolling Stone. “It’s something that’s always dug at me later in life like, ‘Dammit, I was a part of this and I should have more stake.’”

While Pusha T may feel he wasn’t fairly compensated for something that has become synonymous with McDonald’s, the 44-year-old is getting some payback in his new partnership with Arby’s. In the commercial, Pusha T raps: “Drowned in tartar that Filet-O-Fish is tasteless/ see Arby’s only deals in the greatness/ I bet the house on it like it’s Vegas.” You can catch the rest below.
