Have you ever thought twice before buying lottery tickets? Nawaz Haque of Albemarle said he had a strong feeling when buying a Millionaire Maker ticket. He learned that his $30 scratch-off ticket won him a $100,000 prize. Haque said he rarely buys scratch-offs, but after he spoke to the clerk he knew he had to buy the ticket. When asked, he said “Three is my lucky number so I bought it.” Haque won at the Andy’s Mart store on West Church Street in Richfield. We found out his good news when Haque arrived at lottery headquarters Friday to collect his $100,000 prize. After sate and federal tax withholdings, he took home $71,019.

What’s your favorite game to play? Long time lottery ticket winners say that the greater the number of ticket-holders, the less likely we’re walking away, rich. The odds of winning Mega Millions or Powerball, two of the most well known lotteries, are a dismal 175 million to one. As you can see, winning is a matter of math and luck, and most of the math points toward a lack of luck. Ticket sales from scratch-off games make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $900 million per year for education. For details on how $3.8 million raised by the lottery made a difference in Stanly County in 2021, visit www.nclottery.com and click on the “Impact” section.
