Monkeypox is similar to smallpox, but a milder form. Its symptoms are even similar to smallpox like fever, headache, or rash and flu like symptoms. They say it can be cured in up to three or four weeks. Monkeypox is an infectious disease that occurs in certain animals, including humans. Some symptoms are headaches, fever along with muscle pains, swollen lymph nodes, and feeling exhausted. You might find pictures online with people with rashes that turn into blisters and scab up. Presently there’s a few authorized smallpox vaccines used in the United States. Jynneos is the name of the vaccine used for protecting people against smallpox and monkeypox. This version of the vaccine is live and non-replicating, meaning it is safer for those who are at risk.
The strange thing is that monkeypox doesn’t spread easily between humans. According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, human-to-human transmission occurs through respiratory droplets. Dr Michael Head, a senior research fellow in global health at University of Southampton says transmission of monkeypox though sexual contact has been documented, but not been confirmed. At this point we’re sick and tired of all these viruses. At this point it’s a waiting game to see if there are any mandatory shutdowns coming our way.
