North Carolina is blessed with an abundance of natural beauty. From the mountains to the beaches, as the saying goes, we have it all. Of course, people aren’t the only creatures who enjoy the great outdoors. There are plenty of bears out there, too, and we need to respect each other’s space.
According to the NC Wildlife Resources Commission, bears are plentiful in the Mountain and Coastal regions of North Carolina, and increasingly common in the Piedmont. More specifically, we see black bears around here. The black bear is the only type of bear found in North Carolina or anywhere the eastern United States.
I’ve done my fair share of hiking and camping but I’ve never carried bear spray. The video below has convinced me to change my ways. Watch what happens when a man has to convince a young bear to move off in another direction. It was the right thing to do because where there is a young bear, there very well may be a larger mama bear.
