Every day when I come to work I see homeless folks at the corner of Billy Graham and Tryon. If I have cash, which is rare, I’m happy to help those in need. Unfortunately, the homeless population is increasing, not just in Charlotte, but in my hometown of Gastonia too.
There are lots of times I see homeless folks at the garbage disposal area at my apartment. It sucks. Luckily, there’s an event coming up in Gastonia to help those in need.
“Hope Fest” will be held at 1st United Methodist Church at 190 E. Franklin Blvd., on June, 30. The event will run from 10 am-2 pm. The event will offer folks heath screenings, free lunches, and help with laundry. Hot showers will be available for people, as will help getting set up for Medicaid and other services.
And I love that pet care will be offered too! So many people need help, but so do their pets. Homelessness doesn’t mean you don’t love your pet, and I see many folks with dogs when I’m driving in Gastonia.
There are many sponsors for this event, and if its held next year, I hope K 104.7 can participate. If you know of someone in the Gaston County area that is need of assistance, please spread the word about this event. And thanks so much to the Gastonia Police Department for putting the flyer out on social media!
Are you experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness? If so, come to 1st United Methodist Church at 190 E. Franklin Blvd for Hope Fest on Thursday, June 30 from 10am-2 pm.
