Costco CEO Won’t Raise Price On Beloved Menu Item
Prices are going up just about everywhere, but there’s still one product that’s not budging a single penny. I’m talking about the $1.50 hot dog-and-soda combo at Costco. It has to be the best food deal in America. How popular is it? Costco sells more hot dogs per year than all Major League Baseball stadiums combined.
In a CNBC interview on Monday (7/11), Costco CEO Craig Jelinek was asked if he planned to raise the price of the retailer’s signature menu item, which has remained at $1.50 since 1985. His one-word response? “No.”
Costco has raised the price of a few food court items in recent months. For example, the chicken bake went up a dollar to $3.99, and the price of a 20-oz soda climbed 10 cents. But the hot dog-and-soda deal will not change.
If you’ve never treated yourself to the iconic Costco combo, don’t think you’re getting some pathetic excuse for a hot dog. It’s a delicious quarter-pound all-beef frank that Costco makes themselves. Add the beverage and you have a full meal. I highly recommend it as a reward for getting all your bulk shopping done.
