Rick James/Ronnie James Dio Mashup Is Wild And Wonderful
I realize we don’t play hard core rock-n-roll on our station, but I’m a huge hard rock and heavy metal fan. Since I grew up in the 70’s and 80’s, my favorite music is from those era’s. And one of my all-time favorite singers is Ronnie James Dio, who sang for Black Sabbath after Ozzy, and went on to have a successful solo career. I’ve always called him the ‘wee man of metal’ since he was short in stature, with a huge voice. Someone has mashed up Dio’s ‘Holy Diver’ song with Rick James’ song ‘Mary Jane’ and it’s awesome!
When I was 15 years old, in 1985, I went to my first Dio concert. I was in awe of Ronnie James Dios’ voice. I stood there, on the floor of the old Charlotte Coliseum, floored by Dios’ voice and presence on stage. In 1988, when I was 18 years old and a senior in high school, I met Ronnie James Dio. An older friend of mine was a manager at the Record Bar at the mall, (remember those) and she was given two backstage passes to the Dio show and she took me! It was three days after my 18th birthday.
We went to the show and met Dio and his band after. I was totally starstruck, and I think Ronnie James Dio could tell. He walked up to me, hugged me, and started chatting with me. Long story short, he was one of THE nicest people I’ve ever met, and to date, one of the coolest rock stars I’ve met. I still have the pictures from the show, and I still have the original autograph he gave me. A few years ago, after Ronnie James Dio passed away, I had part of the autograph tattooed on my arm.
Just a little background info about my love for Dio. When I saw the title of this mashup video, I was hesitant, although I must admit, it’s awesome! Bill McClintock is a master at mashups, and this one does not disappoint. He took Rick James’ song ‘Mary Jane’ and Dios’ ‘Holy Diver’ and put them together in an amazing fashion. The two songs blend, and if you’re a music fan, you’ll dig this. In the middle of the song there’s a guitar solo from George Lynch of Dokken. McClintock’s work is pure gold. It’s wild the combo’s he comes up with that work!
If you’re a music fan, you’ll definitely appreciate this! By the way, I’m the girl in the black leather miniskirt in the pic. LOL! Happy Friday!
