Britney Spears is denying that she called out her friend Selena Gomez for being a hypocrite when quoting her 2016 American Music Awards speech in which she encouraged women not to show their bodies on Instagram.

“Don’t you just love the nerve of women who stand firmly getting awards and speak on their beliefs about not showing their bodies on instagram ???!!!!!” Spears wrote on Tuesday in a since-deleted caption of herself wearing a red bikini, Nylon reports.. “They say ‘This is NOT something I would do’ yet those women are the very ones who get 4 million dollar budget videos made about sucking and licking on homemade ice cream!!!!”

Fans quickly speculated that Spears was calling out Gomez, commenting under her other posts to explain why she was coming after her, especially when Gomez recently attended Spears’ June wedding to Sam Asghari. "stop mentioning Selena and stop posting her pics n deleting them...she needa put a restraining order atp [at this point] ...weird behavior...go heal Britney," wrote one fan. Another asked, "So what’s your beef with Selena ? Like actually ?? She’s been nothing but sweet and kind to you. She looked up to you as a kid. You invited her to your wedding. You posted about her so much and changed your pfp to Selena so why are you hating on her all of a sudden ?"

During her AMA speech, Gomez said, “I don't want to see your bodies on Instagram, I want to see what's in here,” placing her hand over her heart. In 2020, Gomez released the “Ice Cream” video with Blackpink that Spears also seemed to be referencing.

On Wednesday afternoon, Spears clarified in a lengthy post that she has no ill will toward Gomez. “Let me clarify about me sharing my beliefs on women judging other women for their own rights in expressing themselves ... what I said had nothing to do with anyone specific at all … it was clearly a subject in hand all women have had to deal with … look I go way back with music !!! I honestly referencing my days when I was younger when I got discriminated against harshly … men in interviews discussing my boobs on live TV or showing my midriff and skin !!! If anybody knows what judgment feels like I’m sure Selena has gone through something pretty similar...”

She followed up by claiming the “ice cream” comment was in reference to Kelis’ 2004 video for her hit song, “Milkshake.” In the music video, Kelis is seen licking up the whipped cream topping to her milkshake, but in Spears' post she writes: "women were finally shaking their asses … that was a moment in history where people woke up to the fact… pushing the boundaries of expressing oneself became explicit… tons of people were offended!!!” After apologizing for her "ignorance," the "Hold Me Closer" singer then claimed she never even saw Gomez's "Ice Cream" video.

Spears continued to praise Gomez in the post, saying that she "genuinely look up to and have so much respect for her," bringing up her wedding attendance and how thrilled she was to have her there. "As for the beautiful queen Gomez, I got to be surprised by her on my wedding day and was completely in awe of her !!!” she continued. “I mean I played the DJ for 5 minutes like an idiot and played my favorite song of hers, ‘Bad Liar’ LOUD on the dance floor like a 6-year-old fan and got to sing my favorite song with her and I wanted to freaking pinch myself!!!"

Calling the interpretation of her deleted post "trash news," Spears essentially ended her apology to the Only Murders In The Building actress by adding, "Her music has gotten me through lots and thank you again for making my dreams come true by coming to my wedding … you’re one person I have always wanted to meet and my dream came true and I will never forget it !!!”

Britney Spears and Sam Asghari's wedding turned out to be the "fairytale" they envisioned, despite Britney's ex-husband Jason Alexander . A source told PEOPLE that the bride was overjoyed to finally say "I do," adding that she walked herself down the aisle, as she didn't invite any family members .

"It ended up being the happiest night for Britney," the source told the publication. "She wanted a fairytale wedding and she got it. Britney looked stunning. She is very excited to be married. She looks forward to a future with Sam."

"As soon as she walked down the aisle and saw Sam, she had the biggest smile. She cried several times during the ceremony, but it was all happy tears," they said, adding, "Britney danced for hours at the reception. You could tell that she had the best time."

Multiple sources confirmed that the couple tied the knot Thursday night before an intimate star-studded guest list of about 60 people, including Drew Barrymore, Paris Hilton, Selena Gomez and Madonna (who shared a smooch with the bride).

According to sources, Spears wore a gown by Versace, with Donatella Versace at the ceremony, and walked down the aisle to Elvis Presley's "Can't Help Falling in Love."

Asghari's manager, Brandon Cohen, told PEOPLE after the ceremony, "I am very ecstatic this day has come, and they are married. I know he wanted this for so long. He is so caring and supportive every step of the way."

Spears, 40, and the actor and fitness trainer, 28, were first romantically linked after they met on the set of her "Slumber Party" music video in 2016 and the rest is history.

However, what was meant to be a fairytale was disrupted by Britney's ex, who she was married to for a very brief 55 hours back in 2004; he stormed into her wedding venue yesterday, while livestreaming on Instagram.

“Hey Britney!” he can be heard shouting as he walks around the premises. “I’m here to crash the wedding because nobody is here except Sam. Where the f--- is the family?”

“So here’s the inside scoop guys of the bulls--- wedding,” he said as he filmed. Viewers who were watching the livestream commented that they were “scared” for Britney’s safety as Jason made his way around her house and disturbingly told someone off camera, “Don’t f--- with me bro, I’m done.”

Jason was eventually arrested by police officers, People reports.

Britney and Sam’s wedding still went ahead, though the couple and their guests were reportedly left “shocked” and “shaken up” by the incident.
