We all know the holidays are expensive! Even buying small gifts for people adds up quickly. But a friend of mine has an amazing idea for an inexpensive, personal gift that you can put right into a holiday card. And it'll only cost you about $3 for the gift plus postage.

Last week I received a Christmas card from my friend Rhonda. We aren't close friends, so I thought it was so kind of her to send me a card. But it was what was in the card that was so special. In the card were two index cards with recipes on them. What an awesome idea! Quite clever!

On a bright green index card, Rhonda put her 'Simple Crockpot Chicken & Dumplings' recipe and on a bright pink card put her recipe for 'Quick Potato Soup'. Both dishes I love!

I like to cook and folks that I'm friends with on my social media pages know this. I often share pics and recipes of dishes I make. Some I create with foods I have available at the time while others I usually find on Pinterest. Rhonda's sweet gesture is perfect for me since she knows I enjoy cooking. And there's a bit of nostalgia with this idea. Hand-written recipes on index cards take me back to when my mom and grandmother cooked something. Remember the recipe boxes folks used to have? Some people probably still have them!

If you haven't sent out your holiday cards, including a simple, yummy recipe card is a thoughtful idea. If you have sent them out, think about this idea for next year. The fact that the recipes were hand-written on the card made them extra special. Rhonda took the time to share something she enjoys with me. Perfect, inexpensive and sweet gift.

Hopefully Rhonda won't mind me sharing with you!
