The Red Ferrari Convertible From ‘Ferris Bueller’ Is For Sale
If you grew up in the 80’s, then you are familiar with the movie ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’. The film came out in 1986, when I was 16 years old, and after seeing the movie I so wanted to go to high school with Ferris. The Matthew Broderick teen comedy was and still is one of my favorite movies.
In the movie, Ferris, his girlfriend, and his best friend Cameron take Cameron’s dad’s prized possession for a joyride around Chicago. The friends skip school and take off in Cameron’s dad’s red Ferrari 250 GT. Cameron has a plan to erase the mileage from their adventure by running the car in reverse so his dad won’t know he took the car. His plan doesn’t work. Cameron kicks the car and crashes through the garage’s full-length window to the floor of the woods below.
According to Yahoo, Heritage Auctions is selling the rebuilt Ferrari 250 GT California prop car used for the crash scene in the movie. You can’t drive it, as it has no engine, but you can show it off.
Bidding for the car runs through Saturday. No one has bid as of yet, but you’ll have to have at least $100,000 to win at this auction. A lot for a car you can’t drive, but it’s way cheaper than the other prop cars from the movie. They’ve sold for as much as $396,000. $100,000 seems cheap compared to that!
If you haven’t seen the movie, do yourself a favor and check it out. Great cast and lots of humor! I love it so much I recently bought a t-shirt that says ‘Abe Froman, Sausage King of Chicago’ on it. And check out the car scene from the movie. I cringe when I see it! Takes me back to being 16 years old, when I scratched my dad’s prized Camaro. That’s a whole other story…
