Oscar Mayer Is Looking For Wienermobile Drivers
Are you a recent college graduate or getting ready to graduate, and are you ready for your first job? If you’re looking for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see the country, you might be ready to work in the exciting world of automotive meat!
CNN reports that Oscar Mayer is recruiting its next class of Wienermobile drivers, or “Hotdoggers.” The company is looking for recent college grads, preferably with a bachelor’s degree in public relations, journalism, communications, advertising, or marketing. Wienermobile drivers are responsible for handing out hot dogs at more than 200 events in over 20 states and documenting the fun on social media for one year. Basically, you’d be a brand ambassador for Oscar Mayer while driving at least 200,000 miles across America.
Did you know the original Oscar Mayer Wienermobile was commissioned by Oscar’s nephew, Carl G. Mayer, in 1936? In 1995, the vehicle grew to a length of 27 feet and a height of 11 feet. Voice-activated GPS navigation and a horn that plays 21 versions of the Oscar Mayer jingle were added in 2004.
Due to its odd shape and size, driving the Wienermobile takes some practice. In 2009, a Wienermobile driver was trying to turn the vehicle around in a residential driveway in Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin. The driver accidentally accelerated forward while thinking the vehicle was in reverse. The Wienermobile became lodged under a house and destroyed its deck. You don’t want to be that person.
Oscar Mayer is offering drivers a competitive salary, benefits, expenses, and team apparel. The competition for the job is intense. With six Wienermobiles in operation, there are only 12 “Hotdogger” positions available for 2023. You can apply at oscarmayer.com/wienermobile. Hurry, the deadline is January 31st!
