Mine was always by my side, with an 80's rock tape inside, ready to go at all times. I wore many a cassette out in my Walkman. And it saved me on family road trips!
According to Louder, the Sony Walkman is back for 2023 but in digital form. The portable music player "inherits the philosophy" of the original. But it costs way more than the ones we remember from the 80's and 90's. It hasn't launched in the U.S. yet but it's in Japan. And the price tag is around $800! Seems pricey to me!
Of course, the sound is WAY better than what we grew up with in the 80's. This new and improved version offers a digital amplifier along with other high tech sound improvements. Although I don't understand the sound technology, despite my years in radio, the basic premise is that it'll sound high quality.
The YouTube video makes it look cool! And I'm sure there's a market for it. But with folks able to grab music in digital form on their cell phones and computers, it'll be interesting to see how it sells. $800 is definitely too rich for me! Maybe the cost will come down once it hits the U.S. market.
