Netflix Docuseries On South Carolina Murdaugh Crime Saga Coming This Month
I’m a huge true crime fan! And in South Carolina, one of the most unique and interesting true crime sagas is currently playing out. The scandals and criminal allegations surrounding disbarred South Carolina attorney Richard “Alex” Murdaugh has many true crime fans captivated, me included. Now Netflix is delving into all of the chaos surrounding the Southern family.
According to Yahoo, Netflix will debut a three-part docuseries, Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal on February 22. E! News calls it a ‘closely involved attempt to make sense of the years of dishonesty, misdeeds and misfortune that followed around a powerful family—and forever changed a small town in the process.”
If you’re unfamiliar with the family and the scandals surrounding them, there’s a LOT to unpack! Currently, Alex Murdaugh is on trial for the murders of his wife and youngest son. Although that’s only part of the horror that is playing out!
The series will explore the fatal February 2019 boat crash involving Murdaugh’s youngest son Paul, the unsolved 2015 homicide of Stephen Smith, who’s been linked to the family for undisclosed reasons by police, and the June 2021 murders of Paul and his mother Maggie. However, Murdaugh isn’t only charged with murder. The disgraced attorney is also accused with numerous financial crimes, including fraud, embezzlement, and tax evasion.
The Netflix series will feature interviews with some of those close to the multiple Murdaugh cases, some of whom are speaking for the first time.
This is one of the most complicated cases and insane cases I’ve ever seen. Murdaugh is innocent until proven guilty, but I’ll say that in the court of public opinion, he’s guilty. As a true crime fan, I have my own opinion on Murdaugh. I think the man is guilty! Once his financial crimes began to pop to the surface, I think the man unraveled. Of course, that’s just my opinion.
If you’re interested in true crime, this will be a series to watch! You can check out the trailer below. Be prepared to say, ‘WTH’ out loud lots when learning about this case!
