Virginia Company Rents Out Sheep To Mow Lawns
Despite the chilly start, spring is here. In my family, that means two things: sneezing and mowing. The sneezing is done by my wife and kids, while the mowing falls to me. Actually, now that I think about, my wife and kids may have been using their spring allergies to get out of mowing all this time. I should have started sneezing years ago. That way I could have justified paying for a lawn service.
Sooner or later, I will retire from cutting the grass and turn it over to someone else. If I lived in the Washington, D.C. area, I’d probably give up my mowing duties now. Up there, homeowners have the option of hiring people or sheep to cut their grass.
According to Fox News, a company based in Fairfax County, Virginia lets people rent sheep to mow their lawns. Cory Suter, owner and chief shepherd of Lamb Mowers, says his sheep help homeowners address their lawn care needs in an environmentally-friendly way. The flock gets rid of weeds while putting organic nutrients back in the soil. So, yeah, there’s poop, but it’s good poop. The company’s mission is to conserve soil and water resources for generations to come.
Homeowners can hire a flock for a two-hour graze at $195 during the week and $295 on weekends. A 24-hour “Sheep-over” starts at $250 for the first day. The company even sets up a temporary fence to prevent any wandering. No need to freak out the neighbors.
The Lamb Mowers sheep do more than just devour weeds and keep the grass short. They’re also entertainers. Cory Suter likes to brag that his is the only lawn company invited to birthday and cocktail parties. He’s not kidding. According to the company’s website, “If you happen to schedule an event while our sheep are servicing your yard, we enjoy introducing our sheep to your guests.” How fun would it be have a flock of sheep at your next cookout? Just don’t serve lamb chops.
