Painting Potatoes Is The Easter Trend For This Year Since Eggs Are Pricey
Over the last few months, the cost of eggs has been pricey! Finding a dozen under $5 is a rare find right now. With Easter quickly approaching, potatoes may be the way to go this year for your Easter Egg Hunt. The potato industry is suggesting using ‘Easter potatoes’ as an alternative this year since eggs are so expensive.
Months ago, folks on social media were posting memes with potatoes being used in place of eggs due to their price. Now Potatoes USA, the national marketing and promotion board representing U.S. potato growers, is all about painting potatoes for Easter.
According to Axios, there are bloggers online that are demonstrating how to paint potatoes for Easter this year. Bloggers Stacey Garska Rodriguez of The Soccer Mom blog and Brittanie Pyper from Simplistically Living are sharing ways to dye and paint potatoes for Easter.
In both blogs, the women used small potatoes. I guess you could use baking potatoes, but obviously they don’t look like eggs. Small white or red potatoes would work since both have a similar shape to eggs. Buy some water-based food coloring, brushes, and maybe some stickers and you’re set.
Using potatoes instead of eggs might be fun for kids since it’s different. And you can hide the small potatoes like you would the eggs for an Easter egg hunt. If you’re looking to save money for the holiday, this may be the way to go as potatoes are relatively cheap.
With egg prices still high, the potato industry is looking to scramble up Easter traditions with a budget-friendly alternative: Easter potatoes. https://t.co/Mdd41IXep8
