North Carolina Woman’s Fridge Explodes Without Warning
This is scary! I’ve heard of different appliances malfunctioning, but I’ve never heard of a refrigerator exploding. But that’s exactly what happened to one woman’s fridge here in North Carolina.
Lenore Satterthwaite, who lives in Person, North Carolina, near Chapel Hill, purchased a new refrigerator in the fall of 2022. According to WTAE, Satterthwaite recently kept hearing an odd noise coming from the freezer, so she called a tech to come out and check on the noise. The repairman told her he’d need to order a part for it to be fixed, however before that happened, boom!
Satterthwaite was sitting in her den working on her computer. Then she heard what she describes as an earthquake happen in her kitchen. The refrigerator’s explosion blew all the contents in it all over the kitchen. The force of the explosion was so big, that it damaged the stove, walls, and surrounding furniture.
911 was called immediately, and the fire department responded to the home. The Person County fire marshal states that no evidence of an electrical fire was evident, and that the cause of the explosion is unknown.
Luckily, Satterthwaite has homeowner’s insurance, which covers the cost of the damage done to her home. The appliance is from Frigidaire, and they’ve reached out to Satterthwaite to get more information on the explosion.
Thank goodness this woman was in another room and not in the kitchen! She could have been seriously injured or possibly killed. Although her homeowner’s insurance should cover the cost of repairing her home, I’m hoping Frigidaire will give her a free brand-new refrigerator.
You can see how the explosion damaged her home below. Just crazy!
