Pro Golfer Hooks Impressive Snake At Wells Fargo Championship In Charlotte
Golf is a fine sport as long as you enjoy the outdoors and the occasional animal encounter. What is a golf course, after all? Basically a large park, right? Animals happen. Just not always the ones you want to see.
On the par-five seventh hole at the Wells Fargo Championship in Charlotte on Saturday, May 6th, pro golfer Rickie Fowler didn’t get a birdie, but he did get a snake. Fowler’s tee shot went toward water on the side of the fairway at Quail Hollow Club. When he went looking for his ball, Fowler found a snake that he hooked with his club.
According to CNN, the snake in question was thought to be a northern watersnake, which, thankfully, is nonvenomous. The snake slithered safely away, Fowler went par on the hole, and had one heck of a story to tell in the clubhouse at the end of the tournament’s third round. The PGA Tour posted video of the encounter on Twitter:
