North Carolina Man Takes Second Job Where Daughter Works For Extra Quality Time
A North Carolina man may have locked up the “Father of the Year” award by taking a second job in order to spend more time with his teenage daughter. James Culp, a retired Marine living in Newport, already works as the director of a child development center at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point. However, as Fox News reports, he eagerly stepped into a new role at the bakery and deli counter at the Food Lion supermarket where his 19-year-old daughter, Astyn, works.
The father-daughter duo haven’t been on the job at the grocery store together long, but he was a stay-at-home dad for his little girl, and they were inseparable. Astyn has worked for Food Lion for more than a year-and-a-half and had been telling her dad about her struggles with coworkers not showing up for shifts or doing their share of the work, which made it harder for her and the rest of the team. So James decided to ease her stress and took a job working with her, but she’s actually his boss.
Dad has a tough schedule. He works from 5:15 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. at the child development center before starting his shift at Food Lion at 3:00 p.m. But he doesn’t seem to mind. “As long as they’ll have me, and I can work the same shift as Astyn … and help her and make her life easier, I’ll be there,” James says. Astyn has a new appreciation for her father, explaining, “Being able to work with him and see him every day is just something I’m really grateful for.” Man, this room is dusty.
