North Carolina Mountains Offers ‘Turf Tubing’ And It’s Fun For The Whole Family

Here in North Carolina, there are many fun filled activities in the winter in mountains. Folks love to go snowboarding, skiing, and tubing once the snow hits. But you can also enjoy tubing in summer in the mountains. ‘Turf Tubing’ is a thing, and it looks like a blast!
According to Only In Your State, at Highlands Outpost, about 10 miles southwest of Highlands, NC, you can go snow tubing in summer, just without the snow. ‘Turf Tubing’ is a family fun activity, and it’s a downhill adventure. Looking at the pictures, it reminds me of a very advanced ‘Slip ‘N Slide’ but with tubes.
The ‘Turf Tubing’ track looks similar to a water slide, but there’s no water. The fast tubes are powered by gravity and kept on track by artificial turf. There’s special tread that keeps the tube on the track for the entire run. You hop in a tube and quickly roll down the track, and it’s your choice to sit backward or face forward.
At first, I thought you’d get some serious sweating in climbing back up the huge hill with your tube for a second run, but I was wrong! There’s a magic carpet lift that will take you and your tube back to the top.
This is a cool family fun activity, and I never knew it existed! There are a few restrictions though, similar to a theme park ride. You must be at least four years old to ride and over 42 inches tall. Kids will love this! The cost of admission includes one or two full hours of ride after ride depending on how much you choose to pay.
If you’re looking for a fun day trip, this should be on your list this summer. Highlands Outpost, formerly known as Scaly Mountain Outdoor Center, is open now. Find out more details here.
