Coming To Charlotte: 3 Doors Down With Special Guest Candlebox In September
For most of my career, I’ve worked in rock radio. I’ve been with K 104.7 now for six years, but rock music is what got me into the business. Although 80’s rock and metal is my favorite, I love all types of music. Until I reached 50, I went to almost every rock show that came to Charlotte. I’ve eased up a bit as I get older. A friend of mine just asked me if I was going to see Disturbed and Breaking Benjamin tonight in Charlotte at PNC Music Pavillion. Sadly, now that I’m older, it’s just too damn hot for me in the summer. But this show I may hit in the fall!
According to WCNC, 3 Doors Down with special guest Candlebox are touring together this fall and will hit Charlotte on September 2. Candlebox formed in 1990 in Seattle and signed with Maverick Records, which was run by Madonna at the time. The bands self-titled debut album came out in 1993 and was the first album to achieve commercial success for the record label. Four million copies of the album were sold, and I played it over and over! I loved that record. The band’s singer Kevin Martin has such an amazing voice. It’s unique and a bit scratchy, which I dig.
Candlebox’s first album was playing on radio stations all over the country, and their videos were all over MTV. The fact that the band was easy on the eyes didn’t hurt them either. Their second album Lucy had a few good tunes, but none of their albums hit as big as their first. Still, the band toured lots in the 90’s and performed at Woodstock ’94.
3 Doors Down is headlining the tour as it’s their ‘Away From The Sun Anniversary Tour’. The tour is celebrating the album of the same name that came out in 2002. The bands from Mississippi, and their first album hit in 2000. The Better Life album made the band into rock stars! It sold over three million copies and was the 11th best-selling album of that year. ‘Kryptonite’, ‘Loser’, and ‘Duck and Run’ are all from that album. I think I’ve played ‘Kryptonite’ over 400 times in my career. LOL!
The band’s second studio album, Away from the Sun, hit in 2002 and went platinum quick! The album includes ‘When I’m Gone, ‘Here Without Your, and ‘The Road I’m On’. NO question that ‘Here Without You’ is their most popular song. Personally, it’s not my favorite, but it’s a good tune. You’ll see phones in the air when that one is played live.
One of the most endearing things about 3 Doors Down is their love for veterans and children. The band is one of many that play live often for the troops, which is amazing! They also started The Better Life Foundation in 2003, which helps children in need have a better life. Since it began, the charity has supported numerous charities around the country, including the Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse, and Habitat for Humanity. Although I’ve never met the band, I love when bands are great to their fans and care about the community around them.
3 Doors Down with Candlebox will hit Skyla Credit Union Amphitheatre on September 2, with tickets on sale now. Grab more details on the show here. And enjoy a flashback to the 90’s and early 2000’s below.
