Luckily, if you're like me, we'll all have a chance to go soon. The Belmont Drive-In, which closed down in 2014, is planning to reopen soon.
According to WCNC, the Belmont Drive-In first opened back in 1948 with a capacity of 150 cars, according to CinemaTreasures.org. Sadly, in 2014 it closed down. Although there's no exact opening date, the theater is planning to show movies on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. In addition, they're going to special events throughout the year.
A friend of mine shared the Drive-In's Facebook post from earlier today that says, 'After a LOT of hard work and tons of $$$$$$, we passed inspection today! It won't be long now.' Even though an exact date isn't available, I'm excited! Finally, I'll be able to go to a drive-in.
Since they haven't announced an opening date, no prices are available. I'm guessing, but I'm sure that concessions will be for sale once the theater opens. There was a drive-in in Kings Mountain, Hound's Drive-In, but it closed after seven seasons.
When I think of a drive-in, I always think of scenes in older movies or TV shows. For example, there's an episode of 'That 70's Show' where Donna and Eric go to a drive-in, and Kelso and Jackie go with them. Long story short, it turns into a make out fest! LOL! Drive-In's always make me think of dating. Sadly, I haven't had one of those in years, so I'll probably be hitting the drive-in with friends once it opens.
You can keep up with the Belmont Drive-In and the progress being made here. Hopefully we'll have an opening date soon!
