Son Asks Dad What Growing Up In The 80’s Was Like, Dad’s Videos Nail It
If you grew up in the 1980’s, then you probably have some great memories. Although the world is easier now in a lot of ways, the 80’s were so much fun! Life wasn’t as easy as it is now, but I truly think we were lucky to grow up then. We got to experience so many things that kids don’t now.
The 80’s ruled! Spending time outside without a care, hanging out with friends, and getting into music via MTV. According to MSN, a dad named Justin, @shadyraro on TikTok, is explaining to his 8-year-old son what it was like to grow up in the 80’s using videos. And those videos have gone viral. If you grew up in the 80’s, these videos will make you smile!
The first video Justin posted shows numerous things from the 80’s. VHS tapes were our Netflix. Seeing bicycles in someone’s driveways let you know where your friends were hanging out. We all wore bright colors at some point. As kids, we were the remote control for our parents. If we needed to change the channel, we had to get up and turn the dial.
So many people loved his first video, he’s made a second one. The first video has over 14 million views, and the comments are awesome! So many of us who grew up in the 80’s have lots of the same memories, no matter where you grew up. Things were harder in many ways, but the simplicity was easier.
In the second video, Justin shows his son our internet: the library! Sony Walkman’s were our air pods, and phonebooths were our cell phones. Outside time was mandatory, especially on the weekends. Your parents rarely knew exactly where you were. Bicycles were our scooters, and we never wore helmets.
McDonalds, Pizza Hut, and KFC were treats, and the food was better than it is now. If we got in trouble, we were grounded which meant no phone use or watching TV. Watching the ‘Love Boat’, ‘Fantasy Island’, and the ‘A Team’ were a must, and sometimes you be watching TV while talking on the phone to a friend.
Playing video games at home was fun, but not everyone had gaming systems. Arcades and skating rinks are where you went to hang out with your friends, and your parents would just drop you off and pick you up hours later. The 80’s weren’t perfect, but Gen X’ers truly have strong feelings about that decade. In many ways it was the best, and there are so many things I miss about that time.
Flashback to a simpler time with these two videos. They’ll make your day!
