Trans-Siberian Orchestra Coming To Charlotte With Some Ghostly Christmas Cheer
I’ve never seen the Trans-Siberian Orchestra live which is odd since I’m such a rock/heavy metal fan. The reviews of their shows are always glowing, so I may need to check them out this year. Yesterday the group announced the dates for their 2023 ‘The Ghosts of Christmas Eve–the Best of TSO & More’ tour. The band has two sets that will travel the U.S. starting November 15, and there’s a Charlotte date.
According to Blabbermouth, this year’s production follows the journey of a runaway who breaks into an abandoned vaudeville theater on December 24. As the teen is seeking shelter from the cold weather, the caretaker of the theater finds her. He then uses the ghosts and spirits from the building’s past to help her turn her life around. Cool!
In addition to the touching story, TSO will give concert goers a rockin’ light and laser show that will accompany the amazing music. TSO is hitting the Spectrum Center on December 9th, with two performances, one at 4 p.m. and one at 7:30 pm. Fans will get a memorable performance referencing the band’s 1999 album ‘The Ghosts of Christmas Eve’. Singers will be representing different characters of the story by late founder Paul O’ Neil.
Al Pitrelli, TSO’s guitarist and music director says, ‘Everybody misses somebody, especially at Christmas.’ The show provides an arena for people to feel less alone while enjoying one of the biggest rock and roll productions in the world. It is amazing how music can bring people together!

It’s wild to me that some of the guys I saw in the 80’s now bring millions of people rockin’ Christmas tunes. One of the founders of TSO, Jon Oliva, sang for a band called ‘Savatage’ in the 80’s. I saw and met him in 1988 when the band opened up for DIO. I still have the pictures! Long live rock and roll!
