Nebraska 911 Call Reminds Me Of One Of My Favorite Movies
“You’re going the wrong way!” That’s a line from one of my favorite films. I’ll get back to that in a minute. I was reminded of the movie by a story of a 911 call in Nebraska that popped up in the news this week.
CNN reports that a man was arrested this past March in Lancaster County, Nebraska after calling the police to let them know that everyone was driving on the wrong side of the highway. When a deputy from the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Department arrived, it was obvious that the caller himself was in fact the one driving on the wrong side of the road. Frightening.
Not surprisingly, the man had been drinking. The driver’s blood alcohol level was over twice the legal limit, according to the sheriff’s office. You can see video of the officer speaking to the confused man in this Facebook post. “Thankfully a Lancaster County Sheriff’s deputy was able to arrest this driver before anyone was seriously hurt,” according to the post.
Now back to the movie. Do you know which one I was referring to earlier? The drunk driver calling 911 to say that people were driving on the wrong side of the road reminds me of a scene in the hilarious 1987 comedy classic Planes, Trains and Automobiles with Steve Martin and the late John Candy. It also happened in the Midwest, but drunk driving was not to blame. It was just two weary travelers who really were going the wrong way. Here’s the scene:
