North Carolina Boy Celebrates 4th Birthday With His Own Garbage Day
We all love Fridays. In fact, every week, we thank God for them. But there’s a preschooler in Apex, North Carolina who loves Fridays a little more than the rest of us. That’s because, in his neighborhood, Friday is garbage day.
According to WGHP-TV, four-year-old Jackson Burns loves to watch the garbage truck come by his family’s home in Apex. Jackson’s mom, Jen Burns, had posted a cute photo of him on a neighborhood group page before his recent fourth birthday. A very normal mom thing to do. However, she was shocked by what happened next.
The community came together to make sure Jackson had the best birthday ever. On the boy’s special day, workers from the local trash collection company, the Town of Apex Yard Waste Division, and officers with the Apex Police Department all paraded by Jackson’s home with their big trucks and official vehicles. They even brought him a couple of presents including a backpack, a hat, and his very own police badge.
This reminds me of my oldest son’s obsession with fire trucks when he was in preschool. He always made us stop to watch one go by. Even the sound of a siren in the distance would get his attention. Then, one of his preschool buddies had a birthday party at a firehouse in Charlotte. This was his chance to really see a fire truck up close and maybe even sit in it! See it he did. Sitting in it was too overwhelming on that particular day.
Jackson’s mom was also overwhelmed by the community’s thoughtfulness toward her son. Burns says she’s in awe of how they all made Jackson’s birthday so memorable. She also gave a special shout-out to The Town of Apex Public Works, GFL Environmental, and Apex PD members Jake and Victoria. She added that her “mama heart is so full!” And Jackson looks like one happy kid in the post below. You can see more photos HERE.
