There’s A Cool Reason Why I Won’t Go See The Aerosmith Concert In Charlotte
There’s a cool reason why I won’t go see Aerosmith live in concert anymore, but when they hit town next month, you should definitely go! The reason has nothing to do with their musical performance. They’re amazing live! The Black Crowes are too! But I have a stellar Aerosmith moment that I refuse to blurry.
In 2000, I moved to Columbia, South Carolina for my first on-air job. Oddly, it was also with a K 104.7. It was working for WNOK, a top 40 station. I was hired to do middays, and after three months, I was asked to be a part of the morning show. It was shocking since I had very little on-air experience. I took the job and figured I’d get fired since I was clueless! After three years, I was the longest running female on the show. LOL!
I married my first husband on New Year’s Eve, 2000. In 2001, Aerosmith was touring on their ‘Just Push Play’ tour and the show hit Charlotte. Although it doesn’t happen often now, back then there were some cool perks in radio, and you could often meet bands. The station was given numerous meet and greet passes, so there were a few staff members that went to the show. I was one of them.
Meeting The Band
Meeting Aerosmith was exciting! Prior to the meet and greet, the record rep went through a massive list of rules. It was a bit annoying. When it was our turn to meet the band, as employees, we let the listeners that were with us go first. As I was talking to my co-worker Sue Tyler, who did middays, Steven Tyler walks up to us. Steven Tyler! He comes up to us and says, ‘ I know you girls are talking about my ass.’ We both stood there stunned! Steven Tyler from Aerosmith just said that to us!
As we stood there in shocking silence, he said it again! Both of us started stammering, and he says, ‘Well, go ahead, grab my ass.’ I told him I was newly married and he asked if my husband was with me. I said no, so Tyler says, ‘Well, then grab my ass!’ WHAT?! This is Steven Tyler from Aerosmith! I’ve been a fan of the band so years! The ‘Toys in the Attic’ album is still one of my favorites! So, I grabbed his ass! I mean, what else can you do!
Tyler was laughing as Sue and I were standing there with wide eyes. He was such a nice guy! After I grabbed his butt, which is tiny by the way, he stood there chatting with us for a bit. It was one of my favorite rock star moments. We took a few pictures with the band and had an amazing time at the show.
Since meeting Steven Tyler and having such a cool memory, I won’t go see the band live anymore. It was a moment that will stay with me always, and I don’t want it clouded with any other Aerosmith moment. Grabbing the butt of Steven Tyler is a solid story!
If you’re thinking of hitting the show on October 17 at the Spectrum Center, do it! You can get ticket info here.
