Etsy Says These Are The Holiday Trends For 2023 And I Love One Of Them
I’m not a trendy chick as I go with what I like. This goes for décor, food, and clothes. Last year I began decorating for the holidays after taking a break for a few years. For Christmas/Winter, I went with a snowman theme. I had a snowman tree in my room and I loved it! So much so that I created a summer tree with flowers and butterflies and now a Halloween tree, with a retro theme. Most of the décor I bought on Etsy.
According to Real Simple, Etsy is announcing the trends we’ll see this year for the holidays, and I really love one of them. Christmas and holiday decorations are already appearing in stores and in online shops. Etsy is sharing the top holiday trends and must-haves according to the searches on their site. If you’ve never done some shopping on Etsy, it’s awesome! Not only can you find a huge array of things, the prices aren’t bad at all. And when you shop on Etsy, you’re helping small businesses.
The Halloween tree I created this year has a retro theme, and I did most of the shopping for decorations on Etsy. I also got a cute Halloween tee and Halloween sweatshirt on Etsy. It’s my new favorite shopping site!
What’s Trending This Year
So what’s going to be popular for the holidays this year? These are the trends according to Etsy:
- The “Gingerbread Girl” aesthetic – This is basically the cozy, indoor, winter version of the “tomato girl” trend of the summer. It’s like “cold-weather cottagecore,” so instead of fresh-cut flowers and flowy sundresses, it’s fluffy blankets and freshly-baked bread. Searches for gingham bedding are up 34%, and people are getting ready for holiday baking as searches for personalized recipe boxes are up 28%.
- Mantelscaping – The mantel is getting more decor love this year and it’s the ideal focal point for holiday decor. Etsy’s trend expert Dayna Isom Johnson says the options are endless, from a winter wonderland village to a forest scene with wooden trees or even snow globes and iridescent baubles. Searches on Etsy for ceramic trees have increased by 67%, searches are up 86% for candle lanterns and 52% for accent ornaments.
- Grandpa Chic – It’s the winter rebrand of the popular “coastal grandmother” trend. Think rich, warm tones like burgundy, olive green and tobacco brown, with materials like dark woods and leather. Etsy has seen demand for leather items soar, with searches for leather poufs up more than three times. Vintage and antique pieces would also fit into this old-school vibe.
- Candycore – This trend is inspired by “a sugary fantasy world filled with lollipops, candy canes, and gumdrops,” according to the trend expert, and can be displayed with iridescent materials, playful patterns and sweet treats themselves. Etsy searches for cotton candy cakes have more than doubled this year, while searches for stained glass ornaments are up 34%.
I love Gingerbread! I love eating the cookies and I love Gingerbread houses. My plan this year was to go with my snowman theme again, but now I’m thinking I might combine the gingerbread and candycore ideas! Both of these are whimsical and fun, which is what I enjoy! I’m thinking a gingerbread man/girl tree, mixing in some of the candycore ideas. I spent a lot of money for Halloween this year and wasn’t planning on spending lots for the holidays. That may change! Lol!
