Having Too Much Fun At Certain Spots Can Cost You A Funny Fee
Working in a restaurant can be tough! Bartending and waiting tables is something I’ve done, and dealing with folks that get rowdy can be a pain. While working at a buddy’s place in Belmont, he’d offer ‘bottomless mimosa’s’ on Sundays during brunch. More than once I’d end up cutting some folks off because they got too crazy. As disgusting as it is, I’ve seen someone throw-up while at the bar. NOT cool! There are some restaurants in California that are trying to stop folks from getting too nuts by charging an interesting fee.
According to TODAY, some California restaurants are trying to prevent folks from over-doing it. Restaurants are seeing some folks, mostly in their 20’s, coming in during brunch when bottomless mimosas are offered. If you drink too much as some spots, they now charging a ‘vomit-fee’. I am totally with this!
Three popular brunch spots in the San Francisco area have been dealing with folks drinking too much and ultimately getting sick — sometimes right at their table in the dining room. UGH! Obviously this is bad for business, especially while other folks are trying to eat. Kitchen Story, in Oakland, California, has a sign trying to stop folks from getting too drunk. The Asian-inspired spot has a sign in its bathrooms, directed as folks planning on chugging drinks. The letter reads:
Dear all mimosa lovers,
Please drink responsibly and know your limits. A $50 cleaning fees will automatically include in your tap when you throw up in our public areas. Thank you so much for understanding 🙂
The restaurant posted the sign almost two years ago when its general manager saw similar signs in bars in the area. One spot, Home Plate, has the warning on its menu, telling folks a $50 fee will be added to their tab if someone gets sick.
No One Wants To Clean Up THAT Mess
Restaurant workers usually don’t make that much money hourly. When you are tipping a waiter, waitress or bartender, that is usually the money they live off of. Cleaning up someone’s vomit because they got too drunk isn’t what employees sign up for when working in an eatery.
Wait staff and bartenders do go through training to look for signs that someone has been drinking too much. Cutting folks off when they’ve had a few is something many employees have done. Cleaning up after someone isn’t festive, and quite honestly, ain’t in the job description. Not to mention how unappetizing it is for other people dining in the restaurant. Charging a fee is a great way to make sure customers don’t get too crazy!
