Man’s Holiday Decor Is Channeling Clark Griswold And It’s Awesome
Every holiday season, most of us have certain movies we’ll watch. One I watch every year is ‘National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation’. The 1989 flick starring Chevy Chase and Beverly DeAngelo is a classic! And Randy Quaid as ‘Cousin Eddie’ is one of the best characters of all time! It’s the perfect movie showing a family wanting the perfect Christmas and realizing that family is never perfect!
In the movie, on his quest to have a magical old-fashioned Christmas, Clark Griswold decorate his home in thousands of Christmas lights. Now a man in Kansas is tapping into his inner Clark Griswold and doing the same! According to Fox 4, Kansas City, Michael Russell is creating the perfect holiday house. His home in Rose Hill is drawing spectators from all over and for good reason.
Russell’s home is covered in over 100,000 lights. 100,000! I don’t even know how you begin to do that! Technically, Russell has gone above and beyond Clark Griswold. In addition to all the lights, Russell has 40 inflatables in his yard. Starting the project 15 years ago, Russell now has thousands of visitors to his home every holiday season. Kids and adults alike are loving his holiday spirit!
When Russell began his over-the-top decorating, he never thought he’d get so much attention. But now he loves all the visitors he gets yearly, and even has a guest book that folks can sign when they go to his home to see his wild set-up.
How Long Is His Set-Up Time?
Just thinking of 100,000 lights makes my head dizzy! How long does a display like this take to get set-up? Russell says he usually works for about 3 months to get his holiday decor up and running. Honestly, looking at the display, I’d think it would take longer! I guess after doing it for so many years, Russell has it down pat.
Neighbors are loving what he does and some even let his display roll over into their yards. Folks in the area visit yearly and say it’s part of their ‘family holiday’ tradition to check out all of his decorations during the Christmas season. I’ll say this: the man is committed! I can’t imagine what his power bill is for the month of December!
Since Kansas City is a road trip from Charlotte, you can enjoy some video of his tremendous Christmas display below. It’s wild!
