Most of us dislike a thief, and I'm no exception. It angers me when hard working people have things stolen by someone. This is the time of the year when many folks are having packages delivered for Christmas, so the thievery increases. A person here in Charlotte decided to fight back against a porch pirate and I love it!

According to Queen City News, a southwest Charlotte resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, punked a porch pirate. While shopping at a local hardware store, the person decided to do a bit of shopping for those on the 'naughty' list.

The man says he took a box that a package had arrived in and packed a present for the robbers. Instead of an expensive Christmas present, the man packed bricks into the box. Yes! Now catching porch pirates is rare, but with his security camera set-up, the man actually caught a person stealing the box of bricks. In addition to the heavy brick box, the man included a note saying, 'We don't appreciate you doing this.'

Doubtful this trick will stop the brick stealing thief, but at least the crook now knows that folks are onto their robbing ways. And the Charlotte man is hoping the crook will feel dumb for falling for the box of bricks.

Stealing Is Big Business

Porch pirates and other crooks can make money selling the goods they steal. Sadly, shoplifting and porch pirate stealing is happening more and more. Earlier this week, a locally owned toy store here in Charlotte was the victim of shoplifters. These folks are so brazen, they just walk in, grab as much as they can, and walk out. Watching the video made me angry! These guys weren't even rushing. They just strolled in, stole stuff, and strolled out. Grrrrr!

According to the National Retail Federation, retail crime is at an all-time high. Organized Retail Crime, or ORC, is also increasing. We've all seen videos online of these types of crime. A bunch of people walk into a store, usually a major retail chain, grab a ton of stuff all at once, and run out. Sadly, many of these crimes are committed not only by adults, but by teens as well.

If you're expecting a package, and you know you won't be home when it arrives, ask a neighbor to pick it up for you and hold it until you get home. Or have a packaged delivered to your office so it won't be sitting on your stoop. Ring cameras and security cameras are helpful, especially in identifying a thief, but they are not always a deterrent.

Kudos to the man here in Charlotte for getting back at the porch pirates! I'm sure they'll be bummed when they open their box of bricks!
