The Best Times For A Trip To Myrtle Beach
Myrtle Beach, South Carolina is a big vacation spot for lots of people. I’ve been going there since I was a toddler. A local is letting us know when the best times to hit the popular destination. I can tell you this, it’s not 4th of July weekend! LOL!
In the early 70’s, my parents owned a condo in the first phase of ‘A Place at the Beach’. Once my parents divorced, we’d vacation at Hilton Head Island (Dad) or Pawley’s Island (Mom). Although I’d go to Myrtle Beach with my friend Lisa in the early 80’s as her family went every summer. In addition, I spent every graduation week in North Myrtle/Myrtle from 1985-1988. Now, those were fun times!
As an adult, I go to North Myrtle/Cherry Grove yearly with my girlfriends. Myrtle Beach has changed a lot in the last 10 years, but it still stays busy with tourists year-round. Outside of the beach and the ocean, there’s lots of shopping spots, places to eat, and shows to see in the area.
When To Miss The Crowd
If you’re not a fan of lots of people and lots of traffic, then staying away from Myrtle Beach from June through August is a good call. Obviously, the beach is most popular in summertime. According to Southern Living, the best time to visit the beach depends on what you’re looking for. Myrtle Beach expert, and public relations manager at Visit Myrtle Beach Denielle Van Dyke is giving Southern Living all the details on the best time to visit for fewer crowds, great weather, and lower prices.
For steamy temps and hot sand, summer is the time to hit the beach. You’ll be able to enjoy all the beach has to offer, but you’ll also be dealing with lots of people. The weather at Myrtle Beach is warm in spring and fall, so these two seasons are a good time to go. You’ll be able to enjoy nice weather without the summer crowds.
Late fall and winter are the best times to hit Myrtle Beach is saving money is important to you. Usually, these are the times the beach is less crowded. You probably won’t get a stellar tan during these times, but it’s still a great time to go. I love the beach when it’s cooler outside.
Having vacationed lots at Myrtle Beach, I can tell you that July 4th is probably the busiest time to go. When I was married, we’d go yearly for a week, and the beach is packed. There’s very little room between you and your neighbors on the sand. And if you enjoy eating out, be prepared to wait an hour or two during this time.
The Beach Is Fun For All Seasons
Spending Thanksgiving and/or Christmas at the beach is fun! One year we celebrated Thanksgiving at Myrtle Beach, and I really enjoyed it. There’s such a sense of peacefulness at the beach in the off season. Sometimes just getting away and feeling the ocean breeze when it’s cold is better than going when it’s hot and humid.
Myrtle Beach has events happening during all seasons, so there’s really not a bad time to go. In May, I’m going to Cherry Grove with my girls for a long weekend. We’ll have dinner or go get drinks in North Myrtle at least one of the nights we’re there. It’ll be warm, but not too humid in May and it won’t be too crowded. Perfect time to go!
