In an emotional Instagram post, Macon shared that the store at 1730 Abbey Place is in its final stretch but emphasized that the journey isn't over.
"Having a brick-and-mortar has been a whole new beast, and while I've loved every part of it — the laughter, the tears, the reviews, the complaints, even those who said we were 'too damn expensive' — it's time for me to pause and reassess what this business looks like for me," she wrote. "Beyond Amazing Donuts has never been defined by four walls. It's anywhere I am."
This decision arrived exactly three years after Macon first announced BAD's opening, marking a full-circle moment for the chef and her loyal customer base. Macon, who moved to Charlotte in 2008 and worked at Leah and Louise beginning in 2014, built a name for herself through creative flavors like raspberry sprinkle and Black Garlic Everything. Before launching the storefront, she developed her craft through pop-ups and time spent in other bakeries.
Although the shop is closing, Macon remains passionate about her work and expressed deep gratitude for the support she's received. Patrons still have about a month to stop by for a final taste of her inventive creations. Sherman Walters and Scott Lee of National Restaurant Properties are handling the lease and assets of BAD. While Macon has not shared specific plans, she hinted that her next chapter may look different, but her commitment to baking remains.
