A new cancer support hotline now runs day and night in Charlotte, North Carolina. The service gives patients and survivors access to a caring voice when they need it the most.

"You're free to talk about anything that concerns you, any anxieties — we're here to listen and to help," said Regina Hall, CEO of Carla's Calls, according to WCNC.

The phone line welcomes calls from anyone affected by cancer, with special attention to those facing treatment alone. While they don't offer medical guidance, the team ensures no one feels isolated while walking this path.

After surviving cancer three times, Hall started this project. Her inspiration came from late-night talks with her friend Carla, who always offered emotional support during Hall's first battle with breast cancer.

"She stayed on the phone with me literally all night talking me through anxiety, pains, issues, finances," Hall said, as per WCNC. "She listened to every worry, every fear that crossed my mind when I needed someone most."

Their bond started at work but grew stronger as they shared their cancer experiences. Both lived alone without family nearby during treatment, and due to what they were going through, they really understood each other.

"She knew exactly what it meant to fight this battle alone," Hall remembered, as reported by WCNC. "No one else quite got it like she did."

When Hall received her third cancer diagnosis in 2021, fate struck a cruel blow. Within days, Carla died. "I kept thinking - who will be my rock now?" Hall said per WCNC.

This heartbreaking loss pushed Hall to build something lasting. What started as support for solo fighters has blossomed into a network for all survivors - their "thrivers," as the team warmly calls them, as shared by WCNC.

Throughout the year, the group hosts gatherings for survivors and their supporters. These meetings are run alongside their free, 24/7 phone line service.
