Are you traveling this weekend during the winter storm? American Airlines is changing things to help customers use their airline this weekend. They are allowing customers traveling to, through, and from Charlotte Douglas to change their flight plans with no additional fees. This comes into effect ahead of the snowstorm expected to hit the area.

Charlotte Douglas International Airport is on travel alert ahead of the storm. For the Carolinas, other airports on the list include Asheville, Columbia, Greenville-Spartanburg, Raleigh-Durham, Wilmington, and Greensboro-High Point.

The Charlotte Observer reports that American Airlines travelers will receive a fee waiver if they purchased their tickets on or before January 19 for dates between Friday, January 23, and Sunday, January 25. New flights will have to be booked between Wednesday, January 21, and Wednesday, January 28, with the original destination and origin. Any upgrades to the original flight will call for an additional fee.

Additional airlines are also allowing customers ot make changes to their flights ahead of the storm.

The winter storm is expected to hit other areas around the Carolinas, including Charleston, Columbia, Raleigh, Asheville, and more. The storm is expected to bring a large amount of snow and ice to the areas with freezing temperatures expected all weekend.

Weather reports are still uncertain about how much we can expect in Mecklenburg County and the surrounding areas. Be sure to keep an eye on weather reports as details emerge.
