This proposed branch occupies the same block as the 110 East office tower. First Horizon will launch a corporate office there during the first six months of this year. That 88,000-square-foot space was announced back in August and will fill the top three floors of the 24-story structure with 250 workspaces.
The office consolidates two separate Charlotte sites. First Horizon declined to comment when asked about these plans.
First Horizon Bank runs operations across 12 states, mostly in the southern U.S. Assets totaled $83.9 billion as of Dec. 31. Around 16 branches serve the Charlotte area.
Justin Rutledge became Charlotte market president last month. He'll guide market strategy while concentrating on bringing in clients, keeping associates engaged, and serving the community. Rutledge brings more than 20 years of banking know-how and answers to Laura Bunn, Mid-Atlantic regional president.
On Friday, the bank brought Mike Holly aboard as senior vice president, head of deposit product management. Working out of Charlotte, he'll oversee a team that zeroes in on consumer and small business deposits. Holly accumulated more than 12 years of work at USAA, where he last served as executive director, head of deposits fee income, overdraft, and funds availability.
Charlotte's banking sector is attracting smaller and regional players. U.S. Bank launched its seventh Charlotte-area branch in August at 1801 South Blvd., right across from where First Horizon plans to set up shop.
Other banks are putting down roots too. First National Bank now boasts over 100 branches throughout the Carolinas. Huntington National Bank planted new locations in SouthPark and South End. JPMorgan Chase, Fifth Third, Pinnacle Bank, Dogwood State Bank, SoFi, and BankUnited are all staking claims in the market.
Bank of America, Truist, and Wells Fargo control Charlotte's banking scene. The tower at 110 East will also hold Coinbase and SouthState Bank.
