More than 900 workers swarm the site. Construction runs day and night on this billion-dollar project. Electronic table games arrived as well as slot machines.
This opening marks the first expansion past the temporary facility that operates on site, and a bar plus restaurant area will debut during this phase, according to Trent Troxel, vice president of the Catawba Nation Gaming Authority.
"This is a catapult to get us for the next seven generations," Troxel said, according to WCNC. "Growing up, I didn't have those same opportunities, so we have been truly blessed."
The main floor sprawls across seven acres on a single deck and should open in spring 2027.
This larger venue will house 3,000 slot machines plus more than 100 table games, including a cage and high-limit area. Restaurants and a 24-hour cafe round out the space.
A 385-room hotel rises above the gaming floor. Chuck Kilroi, a consultant on the project with Delaware North, said the property will earn four-diamond status.
"It will be one of the best casinos in the country," Kilroi said. "Not just people who gamble, but people who like to eat, enjoy themselves."
The site broke ground nearly two years ago, and more than 4,000 drivers pass the location each day.
When finished, the complex expects to hire more than 2,000 people.
