NC Music Hall of Fame Celebrates Elizabeth Cotten

The Department of Natural and Cultural Resources Secretary Susi Hamilton announced the 2019 NC Music Hall of Fame inductees, and Elizabeth is finally being recognized although she was pretty popular.

Here’s a few things to know about Elizabeth Cotten:

When Elizabeth was born, no birth certificate. She was from Chapel Hill, not Carboro, and the music industry made millions from Elizabeth’s music prior to the courts granting Elizabeth copyrights to her own music.
