Throwback Threesome - Stevie Nicks

Stevie Nicks had been a member of Fleetwood Mac since 1975. Then she proved that she could be just as powerful on her own. After the release of Stevie’s debut solo album in 1981, Rolling Stone called her the “Reigning Queen of Rock and Roll.”

That first solo album, Bella Donna, reached number one on the Billboard 200 album chart and remains her best-selling album in the US. It features the singles “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around,” recorded with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and “Edge of Seventeen,” which Stevie wrote following the death of her uncle Jonathan and the murder of John Lennon during the same week of December 1980.

Stevie Nicks released her second solo album, The Wild Heart, in 1983. The first single, “Stand Back,” was actually inspired by Prince’s “Little Red Corvette.” When Stevie told him that over the phone, Prince came to the studio and played synthesizers on the track, although he’s not credited on the album.

  • Stop Draggin' My Heart Around (1981)

  • Edge of Seventeen (1982)
