If you’re from Gaston County or from the Charlotte area, then you’re familiar with ‘Christmas Town USA’. Every holiday season since the late 1950’s, McAdenville, North Carolina turns into a holiday hotspot. The small town is transformed into a Christmas wonderland! There are over 500,00 lights and hundreds of Christmas trees. The whole town is lit up for the holiday season. Folks wait hours in traffic to drive through the town. You can also walk through and see the amazing light displays.
This year, according to The Charlotte Observer, there will be changes to ‘Christmas Town USA’. Two new taprooms will be open in downtown McAdenville and a new ice cream shop will be open soon. There will also be floating Christmas trees in the lake in the middle of town this year. Cool!
If you live locally, you can actually check out the new taprooms now. The River Room opened last Friday in Dynamo 31. You can check out draft beer from brew kettles and your money will go to support local clean water initiatives. Beer for a great cause! I’m in!
Another taproom opened this summer. 115 Craft serves local and regional beers as well as wine by the glass and bottle. In December Knowledge Perk, a Rock Hill based coffee establishment will open in downtown McAdenville. They’ll offer hot and cold brews and an array of snacks.
If you’re like me, the season doesn’t matter when it comes to ice cream. Charlotte based ice cream shop Two Scoops Creamery is set to open a location in McAdenville in early December. You can grab a cone or a shake and stroll through the holiday light display. I checked out their menu and they have some yummy flavors!
These are just a few of the changes for this year. If you are planning on checking out the lights this year, pack your patience. The traffic builds up quick. The lights will start on December 1 and go through December 26. Check out all the details here.
